Benni, neutered male mongrel from Greece, born May 10th 2008

Benni  is very attached to his humans, he is a friendly and intelligent dog. Unfortunately he is handicapped and needs medical care and physiotherapy. We will keep paying the expenses of his treatment in order for the financial aspect not to become the main issue.

Benni’s handicap does not keep him from frolicking around with other dogs and children; he has enormous zest for life and acts just like any other healthy dog. At the moment he is able to go for multiple 30-minutes-walks per day.

He has a hereditary hunting instinct that can be controlled with the effort of proper training. Benni loves children and shows a strong interest for anything around him. He learns quickly, is housebroken, walks well on lead, can be transported in a car without a problem, he gets along well with other dogs and is very playful, as dogs of his age are. He would make a great companion if he could only find the right human.

Benni’s story

As a puppy Benni got thrown into a well. When he was found, ligaments and joints of both hind legs very heavily injured. He had surgery in Germany and post-therapy in a temporary home before he was placed in a new home. Unfortunately his new humans did not apply the necessary training and physiotherapy that were necessary for the development of his muscles. Half a year later he was returned back into the hands of our organisation. He was obviously suffering from pain and his hind legs were in a wrong position. Once more he was taken to a vet surgeon and x-rays were made of his spine, hips and knees. Ultrasound pictures were taken of his knee joints and his musculature was measured.

The diagnosis was devastating. Benni has almost no muscles on his hind legs which caused improper use of the hind legs which in turn caused the painful damage to the hip joints. Right now, another surgery is out of the question as due to the absence of muscular mass no surgeon would place a new hip joint. Also, Benni’s knees do not function properly, his ligaments are in a bad state and both his kneecaps have shifted.

At the moment painkillers help Benni to move more while there is urgent need for physiotherapy and training on an underwater treadmill. He needs to have a healthy diet and nutrition supplements could only help. Benni’s muscular mass needs to develop before any further medical measures can be taken and just how strong he will be and exactly when further surgery will be possible or necessary cannot be said at this point. However, since Benni has started taking painkillers he moves much more and runs across the lawn with the company of children and dogs.

Until now 1500.00 Euros could be collected for Benni’s further care and we are sure that more money will be donated. Whoever will adopt Benni can rely on us for financial support and will in no case have to shoulder the costs on his, her or their own.

So many people have been involved in Benni’s case, we can’t have it all fail now because we can’t find a final home for him!

Please help us find a loving and tolerant home for Benni. A home where he will be loved and appreciated in spite of his handicap.
