This beautiful Brittany was brought into the vet’s surgery in Kalamata some time ago, because she had lost a lot of weight in spite of being fed well.

The vet’s diagnosis: canine diabetes! As the vet explained to the owner, the dog – just as millions of humans suffering from diabetes – could live long and happily provided it was given a proper diet and adjusted medication. Otherwise the dog would have to be put down. The owner was willing to do anything necessary to save his dog but in the end was unable to cope with the required care.

The vet then reached out to the Kalamata Animal Welfare Society, pictures where taken of the dog and sent to the “Brittany Dogs in Need Association” which was going to take care of the re-homing. Unfortunately that did not work out while the vet is now no longer able to take care of the dog. Having no temporary care place available the only solution left now is to euthanise the dog– unless we can find somebody who would like to adopt her. As mentioned, she will need special food and two insulin shots a day.

She is about five years old, loves to go for walks, loves humans more than anything and would do anything to stay with them. As a dog of the pointer family she does have hunting instinct.
