Sadly, Benni is listed under emergency cases again. When he was still a puppy he was thrown into a well to die! He suffered cruciate ligament rupture on both hind legs. Animal welfarists took him in, looked after him, transferred him to a temporary home in Germany and took him to the vet. Benni’s surgery and follow-up treatment for his limited mobility were successful. 

We started looking for a new home for the about 6 months old dog after the vet had declared that Benni had recovered and thus could be re-homed. A sprightly couple of retirees was found and thoroughly informed that Benni needed only multiple brief walks on a short leash. Also, that attention should be paid to his weight, that he should be taken to a good dog training school and that he should otherwise move very little. Alas, this advice was not heeded and after a ferocious incident one of his knee caps slipped and an occasional limp occured, although on a different leg. Was this due to too much strain? Benni was taken to three different vets who suggested different treatments, ranging from physiotherapy to immediate surgery. The retiree couple did nothing at all though. On top of that, they attempted to train Benni without professional help and Benni turned into a non obedient dog who did as he pleased. Six months later Benni was returned to our organisation!

We are now looking for a home for Benni who is full of zest for life but due to his condition has limited mobility, a home where he can just be, where he is fed and gets a few kind words and some affection. Our organization, unfortunately, does not have the means to pay for another surgery of which the outcome is not secure. Already the first two surgeries were possible only thanks to donations. Should somebody be interested in offering Benni a home we will of course do everything in our power to help. We realize there is not much hope to find a new home for Benni but are hoping for this dream to come true.

Right now Benni is in a temporary home where he can stay only for a few more weeks. Benni has been neutered, he is house trained, walks well on lead and has no problem riding in cars. He interacts easily with other dogs and has a hunting instinct that of course he cannot act out on a leash. He is a lovely, youthfully playful dog who is quick and eager to learn. Training him to be obedient would thus be easy.

Right now the poor dog is totally lost and does not understand what is happening anymore.

Will he get lucky? Will someone save him one more time?
